Why Is Plus-Size Activewear So Hard to Get Right?

Can we all agree that finding good plus-size activewear is unnecessarily difficult?

Because at this point, I have opinions.

Lots of them.

The goal of workout clothes is pretty simple.

They should stay where you put them.

Apparently, that's asking too much.

Let's start with leggings.

They're either too tight, too loose, too short, or they slowly begin their descent toward your knees the second you start moving.

If they're not sliding down...They're rolling down.

And there is nothing that kills your workout—or your confidence—quite like stopping every thirty seconds to yank your waistband back into place.

Give me leggings that come up to my ribs.

I mean it.

Sky high.

I want to feel secure, not like I'm negotiating with my pants.

Then there are workout tops.

Can we please make them just a little bit longer?

I don't mind a crop top...

When it's designed intentionally.

But so many plus-size workout tops somehow manage to be too short while also not fitting correctly.

They ride up.

They roll up.

Or they leave just enough of my stomach exposed to make me constantly pull them back down.

It's distracting.

And don't even get me started on sports bras.

The options seem to be:

Not enough support.

Or...

Enough support that I question whether oxygen is still reaching my lungs.

There has to be a happy medium somewhere.

I've tried quite a few brands over the years.

Torrid's TRU line has some really cute relaxed-fit tops and joggers that I genuinely enjoy.

The leggings and sports bras, though?

They dig into me in all the wrong places.

Comfort disappears pretty quickly.

Lane Bryant's LIVI line is dependable.

Comfortable.

Functional.

It gets the job done.

But if I'm being honest...

It's not exactly exciting.

Sometimes I want my workout clothes to have a little personality.

A fun color.

A cute matching set.

Something that makes me excited to put it on.

Lululemon?

Beautiful.

Expensive.

And unfortunately, it just doesn't fit my body particularly well.

Old Navy deserves credit for being size inclusive, but the consistency drives me crazy.

I have one pair of leggings in a 3X that's so tight I question my life choices every time I put them on.

Then I have another pair in a 4X that won't stay on my body.

How?

They're both leggings.

They're both supposedly made by the same company.

It's like every pair has its own personality.

Then there's Rae Mode, which I've found through places like Qurves Boutique.

These sets are adorable.

They're comfortable.

And they're surprisingly affordable.

For athleisure? They're fantastic.

For yoga, errands, coffee runs, and everyday wear, I really enjoy them.

But for an intense workout? They're not quite as durable.

I've already broken a bra clasp.

And one pair of leggings has started wearing thin between the thighs.

Chub rub remains undefeated.

And finally...

Can we have a moment of silence for Yitty activewear?

Because I loved it.

The leggings stretched forever.

The waistband came up sky high and actually stayed there.

No rolling.

No digging.

Just a wide waistband that hugged everything comfortably.

The loose crop tops somehow still kept me covered.

The crop hoodies were adorable.

And the durability?

Amazing.

I've had pieces for years that still look fantastic.

The sports bras weren't perfect—they had a tendency to roll a bit—but I happily overlooked it because I loved having matching sets.

Then one day...It was just...gone.

Now Yitty seems to focus mostly on shapewear, swimwear, and sleepwear.

All things I can find elsewhere.

What I can't seem to replace is the activewear.

If I had known it was disappearing, I would've stockpiled leggings like they were going out of style.

Because apparently...They were.

I did recently find a couple of leggings still hanging on and trust me—they're coming home with me.

No hesitation.

At this point, I don't think I'm asking for anything outrageous.

I want leggings that stay up.

A sports bra that supports me and allows me to breathe.

A top that covers what I want covered.

A matching set that makes me feel cute.

And fabric that survives more than a handful of workouts.

Surely that's possible.

So now I'm asking you.

Where are you buying your plus-size activewear?

Who has cracked the code?

Because if you've found the holy grail of leggings, I am begging you...Please share your secrets.

My yoga classes, my wallet, and my constantly rolling waistband would all appreciate it.
